Principal (15+ Years of Experience Required)


JOB SUMMARY

Provides executive leadership to the senior management team to facilitate general development of the firm by identifying and executing

business strategies to support and advance the company in accordance with the firm’s vision. Establishes preliminary conceptual and

visionary design direction on projects and products in a manner consistentwith the firm’s design philosophy for implementation by others.

Maintains existing client relationships and actively builds the client base to sustain the company.

 

EDUCATION

o Bachelor/ Master’s Degree from an accredited Interior Design/Architecture program

o Degrees must come from a CIDA accredited Interior Design program or NAAB accredited Architecture program

 

EXPERIENCE

o Minimum 15 years of experience in broad range of hospitality and residential Interior Design

o Current registration with NCIDQ or state architectural licensing board strongly preferred

o Experience with LEED® projects, LEED® AP certification preferred

o Expert knowledge of construction materials, Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) specifications/providers,

particularly as applicable to the hospitality industry

o Broad experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post‐occupancy

o Experience leading, managing and mentoring various disciplines

o Experience maintaining and developing long lasting client relationships

o Experience in business development and successful marketing strategies

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

o Identifies, executes, and manages business strategies to sustain and advance the firm

o Manages development and administrative disciplines of the company, such as Marketing, Accounting,

Human Resources and Information Technology departments, to ensure business goals are properly supported

o Provides conceptual design direction for projects and products and periodically monitors development to ensure

design integrity and client expectations are being satisfied

o Collaborates closely with senior design staff on project and product development, studio needs, client relationships,

and new business opportunities

o Ensures career development path for design staff

o Directs marketing efforts and methods to generate new business leads and contacts

o Attends meetings with new, existing and potential client contacts, and industry associates

o Establishes and solidifies new and potential client relationships while also acting as a client contact for key design,

contractual and scheduling related items

o Reviews RFP’s and proposals developed by senior associate/ marketing and provides follow up

o Participates in industry events, forums, and conferences as required

o Prepares project proposals and fee structures and negotiates contracts with clients, vendors, and consultants

o Leads key client meetings and presentations for notable projects

DESIGN

o Establishes conceptual design direction and monitors design consistency throughout the process to ensure

the concept and project goals are successfully accomplished

o Accomplished understanding and display of design principles and theory

o Expert in all areas of design including interior design, interior architecture, furniture design, accessorizing,

and graphic design

o Displays superior creative interior design skills including concept development and hand sketching

o Exercises creative and professional judgment in reviewing and editing client presentation materials including:

graphic sketches, renderings, graphics and selection of colors, materials, finishes and furniture

o Experienced in all phases and aspects of the design process including predesign, design documentation,

FF&E specifications, construction administration and procurement

o Superior understanding of color, materials and finishes

 

TECHNICAL

o Knowledge of building codes, standards and building systems and structures

o Understands conventional construction methods and techniques and how to document them appropriately

o May perform shop drawings and submittals reviews, if needed

o May supervise and/or perform site observations and installations, if needed

o Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook

 

MANAGEMENT

o Monitors and dictates comprehensive staffing requirements for all projects

o Meets frequently with senior design staff to discuss design direction, general tasks, project challenges, schedules,

upcoming client meetings and deadlines

o Meets regularly with Marketing Department to review marketing strategies and new business opportunities

o Meets regularly with Accounting Department to review financial performance of the company

o Monitors senior design staff performance progress and conducts annual performance reviews for senior management

o Reviews tools and ideas for methods and processes presented by senior design staff to increase productivity of firm
