Associate (10+ Years of Experience Required)


Evaluates, selects, and manages multiple design teams in a self‐directed manner in all aspects of the interior design process within

an established budget, schedule, site and programmatic requirements. Provides structured and effective leadership to maintain a positive

studio environment while serving as a primary point of interface with clients and project stakeholders.



o Bachelor/ Master’s Degree from an accredited Interior Design/Architecture program

o Degrees must come from a CIDA accredited Interior Design program or NAAB accredited Architecture program



o Minimum 10‐15 years of experience in broad range of hospitality and residential Interior Design

o Current registration with NCIDQ or state architectural licensing board strongly preferred

o Experience with LEED® projects, LEED® AP certification preferred

o Expert knowledge of construction materials, Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) specifications/providers,

particularly as applicable to the hospitality industry

o Broad experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post‐occupancy

o Experience leading, managing and mentoring multiple project teams

o Experience maintaining and developing long lasting client relationships



o Assists senior management in leading the design studio and providing comprehensive project management

o Reports directly to senior management and contributes to the general direction of the firm

o Identifies studio project and staffing needs and assists in development of the firm

o Supervises and mentors design staff and provides career development

o Assists senior management in developing business proposals and contracts as required

o Manages conceptual design direction for review by senior management and implementation by project teams

o Oversees the selection of FF&E materials, space planning and programming developed by Senior Designer

o Responsible for quality control for schematic design, design development and construction documents, and

FF&E specification phases prepared by design teams

o Maintains existing client contacts and actively builds new client contacts and industry relationships

o Acts as client contact for project management and contractual related items

o Leads client presentations and meetings with senior management, sometimes without

o Participates in industry events, forums, and conferences as required

o Expert in all areas of design including interior design, interior architecture, furniture design, accessorizing, and

graphic design

o Displays superior creative interior design skills including concept development and hand sketching

o Exercises creative judgment in reviewing and editing client presentation materials including: graphic sketches,

renderings, graphics and selection of colors, materials, finishes and furniture

o Experienced in all phases and aspects of the design process including predesign, design documentation, FF&E

specifications, construction administration and procurement

o Advanced understanding of color, materials and finishes



o Knowledge of building codes, standards and building systems and structures

o Understands conventional construction methods and techniques and how to document them appropriately

o Reviews design teams’ drawings including elevations, sections, details and schedules for technical accuracy

and completeness

o Performs shop drawings and submittals reviews

o Supervises and/or performs site observations and installations

o Proficient in AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, and Project

o Knowledge of SketchUp and Revit is desirable



o Establishes project schedule, delegates project goals and structures supporting project hours appropriately

o Monitors and dictates comprehensive staffing requirements for all projects

o Meets regularly with senior management to discuss design direction, general tasks, project challenges,

schedules, upcoming client meetings and deadlines

o Leads project teams to develop necessary documentation

o Leads and conducts quality control measures in the development of FF&E specifications, budgets,

documentation and material boards by project teams

o Tracks financial performance and profitability of projects while monitoring contractual conformance

o Monitors designer performance progress, conducts annual performance reviews and relays career

development of studio to senior management

o Generates tools and ideas for methods and processes to increase productivity of firm
